The south general aviation area is scheduled to begin paving today (9/22/09). The paving will begin on the west side first thus allowing hanger owners and tenants access as soon as possible Hangar owners and tenants should have access to the hangers on Friday (9/25/09).

The Durango-La Plata County Airport has completed construction on the runway. Runway 03/21 is now open the full length of 9,200 feet.
Weather and equipment breakdowns have forced the contractor to delay the planned 8/25 runway opening until at least Thursday evening. The delays have been the result of some inclement weather and equipment breakdowns. The current runway length is 5,600’ and will be extended to 7,600’ as soon as runway paving is complete. We have finally completed the rehabilitation of the north portion of the general aviation apron. We are now beginning the reconstruction of the south apron from Gate B south. Passenger traffic continued its strong growth during the first quarter of 2009 at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, increasing 18.5% during the first three months of 2009. 11,174 passengers boarded commercial aircraft during March, a 35% increase from March of 2008. This follows a record breaking year in 2008 when 136,665 passengers enplaned in Durango, an increase of 18.1% from 2007, the previous record.
