Preservation Plan Update
The City of Durango's Historic Preservation Board is in the process of updating the Durango Preservation Plan. Following the guidance from the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Preservation Planning (PDF), the foundation of our process is public participation. We want to know what the citizens of Durango think are the significant themes to our shared and diverse history, and what places are deserving of preservation to tell those stories.
The first step in this process will be an open house at the Durango Public Library on Thursday, May 10, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. City planning staff will also seek input from cultural and heritage stakeholder groups for their feedback on the City's preservation program.
In the coming months, the City will release a draft of the new preservation, which will incorporate the initial feedback it has received this spring. The City will ask for additional feedback prior to presenting a working draft to Planning Commission and City Council for potential adoption of the plan in the fall.
