Summer Reading Program

Registration begins June 8th

The Summer Reading Program for birth through Elementary School encourages kids to read or have someone read to them all summer long.  Reading together builds pre-reading skills in young children, and studies show that older children who read during the summer months go back to school with improved reading skills.   Reading over the summer is important, and the library can help make it fun and exciting, too!

Register & log your reading hours at http://durango.beanstack.org.

Children who log ten hours, or 600 minutes, of reading will earn a:

  • free book
  • lanyard
  • day pass to the Rec Center
  • chance to win one of two $50 gift cards from Maria’s Bookshop and a grand prize bag

Each additional ten hours of reading will earn another entry in the grand prize drawing. Active participants in the program will be eligible for weekly prize drawings.

The teen program gives youth in Middle and High School a chance to read and win too.  Teens who log twenty hours of reading will earn a:

  • free book
  • sunglasses
  • day pass to the Rec Center
  • chance to win one of two $50 Maria’s Bookshop gift cards and a grand prize bag

Each additional twenty hours of reading earns another chance to win the grand prize.  Active participants in the program will be eligible for weekly prize drawings.

The Summer Reading program also includes lots of fun, free events in June and July. For event details please visit our event calendar.
