Support for Businesses

The City of Durango has established and continues to explore and develop programs to help provide relief to small businesses disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. For more details on any of the programs below, contact Tommy.Crosby@DurangoGov.org or (970) 375-4855.

Bump-Out Program

The city and Business Improvement District (BID) created the Bump-Out program to encourage outdoor dining and business activity in downtown Durango. The city and BID are renewing the program in 2022 with safety and design improvements and a new grants program to support businesses making enhancements to their bump-out structures.

Business Relief Fund

The city of Durango awarded 218 grants totaling more than $820,000 to La Plata County businesses and nonprofit organizations needing assistance with expenses during the COVID-19 pandemic under its Durango Business Relief program.

Delivery Fee Reimbursement

The city of Durango is offering restaurants and food establishments utilizing third party delivery services reimbursement of fees exceeding 15% on Dec. 1 through Jan. 31, 2021. Food establishments must be small businesses as designated by the Small Business Administration to qualify. Reimbursement requests will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2021.

Sales Tax Deferral

Allows local businesses to defer up to $10,000 in sales tax payments for up to 90 days after the City’s emergency order has been lifted.

Free Parking for Curbside Pick-Up

The city is providing free, temporary parking spaces for restaurants and retailers providing take-out service.

Food/Retail Trucks 

The city is working with downtown retailers and restaurants to streamline and permit the use of food and retail trucks in the Central Business District. 

Outdoor Commerce Program

The city has relaxed private parking restrictions, allowing businesses to use up to 25% of their required parking for sales, merchandise display, seating, etc.

Temporary Signage

The city has relaxed restrictions on temporary signage, allowing businesses to use additional signage than is normally permitted to help attract customers and advertise their services.
