Parking Policies
Parking Enforcement Hours:
Parking meter enforcement is year round 8 a.m. to 6 p.m, Monday through Friday when not a holiday. Enforcement of non-meter violations occurs 24 hours per day every day.
On-Street Parking:
30-minute, 3-hour and 10-hour meters provide downtown parking options. Expired meters result in the issuance of parking citations.
Municipal Parking Lots:
The City provides four Municipal parking lots. Please view lot location maps and downloadable Parking Guide. Use of these lots from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. requires a pre-purchased permit available at the Cashier’s office in the Transit Center (250 West 8th Street). Parking in the Municipal lots after 5 p.m. weekdays, and all day Saturday, Sunday and Holidays is free and available to the public. Vehicles parked in Municipal lots during restricted times are subject to citation(s).
No Parking 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.:
The City restricts parking in the Central Business District from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. every night.
Handicapped Parking:
Durango has several designated parking spaces for handicap vehicles. All vehicles parked in these spaces must have a valid, properly displayed handicap plate or placard. Many of these spaces have designated time limits which must be obeyed. Handicap vehicles remaining in a handicap-designated parking space for more than the designated time period may receive a citation. Those with a valid, properly displayed handicap placard or plate may park in any non-handicapped metered space without activating the meter, with the exception of 30-minute meters.
Policy 4.1 Handicap Placards and Disabled Veterans Plates and Government Vehicles on Official Business
Purpose: Convenient parking for patrons with Handicap placards and government vehicles on official business.
Guidelines:
1. Disabled Placards/Plates and Disabled Veteran Plates are verified by the DMV before being issued to patrons.
2. Placards can be identified by matching the Placard number to the patrons identification card.
3. Patrons with said plates or placards may park at any metered space without feeding the meter with placard
VISIBLY hanging. This same courtesy is applied to patrons driving a government plate on official business.
4. The only exception is patrons with government vehicles on official business and handicap placards/plates
cannot park at 30 minute meters.
5. Patrons with disabled plates/placards may park in any handicap space but are limited to the time frame which the sign allows. The placard must have a Valid date Visible for ALL issuing states.
6. The placard may only be used if the owner of the placard is present in or transported by the vehicle.
Durango Parking Boot:
Vehicles having two unpaid parking citations that are over 30 days old will be placed on the boot list. If a vehicle is on the boot list, it may be immobilized by use of a boot device. Once a vehicle is booted, all outstanding parking citations plus a $50 boot fee must be paid before the vehicle will be released. If the boot fee and citations are not paid within 72 hours, the vehicle may be towed and additional fees will accrue.

Parking Zones
Yellow Zones:
The yellow-painted curbs are Durango’s Commercial loading zones. During the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m, Monday through Saturday, these zones are reserved for commercial vehicles which need to actively load or unload freight. Actively loading and unloading means there must be activity within a ten minute period, to and from the vehicle. Commercial loading zones are open for free public parking after 6 p.m, Monday through Saturday, and all day Sunday. Violations are subject to citation.
Green Zones:
Curbs painted green are Transit loading zones for the buses and trolleys. These zones must be kept clear at all times. When vehicles block bus/trolley zones, riders are forced to load and unload in driving lanes, making unsafe conditions for both pedestrians and drivers. Please help us keep everyone safe by leaving these zones open for the Transit system. Violations are subject to citation.
Blue Zones:
Blue-painted curb areas are additional markings for many for Handicapped parking spaces. Durango has several designated parking spaces for handicap vehicles. All vehicles parked in these spaces must have a valid and properly displayed handicap plate or placard. Many of these spaces have designated time limits posted. Handicap vehicles remaining in a handicap-designated parking space for more than the designated time may be cited. Those with a handicap placard or plate may park for an unlimited time in a non-handicapped metered space without activating the meter, with the exception of 30-minute metered spaces.
