Fluoride Information

The City of Durango supports and follows the guidance  and recommendations of various agencies which include the World Health Organization (WHO), American Medical Association (AMA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American Dental Association (ADA), and other professional organizations in the medical community, for the fluoridation of public water supplies as a public health benefit.

In accordance with the American Water Works Association practices and standards, the City handles the application of fluoride in a responsible, effective, and reliable manner that includes monitoring of natural and added levels of fluoride as mandated by the State of Colorado, and other federal laws. The decision to fluoridate has been part of a robust public discussion, and electoral process, and ultimately accepted through the Durango City Council's decision making processes.
